"Brotherhood"
By: Bob Mintzer
Instrumentation: Big Band
Publisher: Kendor Music Inc.
Grade: 3 Funk Ballad = 76

Bob Mintzer is truly one of those special writer/arrangers who consistently offers outstanding charts for big band to all levels of educational institutions. “Brotherhood” is written for medium level groups and is a wonderful and lovely ballad featuring your tenor sax player.

This piece is very lyrical and there must be a solid sense of dynamics as well as uniform phrasing if the chart is to be played to its full potential. There are varying rhythms from section to section, so requiring a good sense of rhythmic independence from each section of the band is essential. Rhythm parts are noted most of the time insuring good support for all horn sections.

This original composition by Bob Mintzer is contemporary all the way and will be received by both the players and audience enthusiastically. Next time you’re looking for a ballad on your concert try “Brotherhood”. I’m sure you will be glad you did.
Top note for trumpet is written B above the staff.
